Excerpt from Almond Path - A Nomadic Night

Long ago, before Portugal was Portugal, the Moorish king Ibn Almundim ruled over Chelb in the Algarve. Returning victorious, he brought back among his captives Gilda, a queen from the north.

At first overjoyed, Gilda gradually sank into melancholy, missing the whiteness of the snow. No remedy could cure her, until a mysterious woman suggested the king plant almond trees throughout the valley. When the trees blossomed, covering the landscape with a blanket of white, Gilda regained her joy.

Since then, the Algarve has been the kingdom of almond trees in bloom, guardian of this ancient legend.

A warm wheat breeze, tinged with the whiteness of a freshly picked almond.
